One of the more dreary aspects of armor modeling is having
to paint the rubber-wheeled road wheels. You might simply weather
all of the wheels like the vehicle has gone deep into the mud,
but you can only do that with so many projects. There has to
be a better way. Now there is!
Quick Wheel has developed the ultimate paint template. This
beveled plastic template is tailored to specific kits, this
one for the DML 1/35 Sherman Mk.III (DML 6231 abd 6313).
Using this tool is literally a no-brainer. Simply paint all
of the wheels black. Add what levels of gray shading to the
sides of the rubber that you'd like, then lay them on the table
in the above pattern and overlay the template. Now simply airbrush
the camouflage color of your vehicle. The bevels in the template
will sit snugly over the rims and keep the paint off the tires.
If you want to add any shading or weathering, do so now, then
simply install the painted wheels onto your vehicle. You can
bang out a complete set of wheels in minutes!
Take a look on their website for all of the template they
currently have available, and that list is growing. You can
order these Quick Wheel templates from
this website.
Definitely recommended for your bench!
My sincere thanks to Quick Wheel
for this review sample!
