First Look

Starfighter Decals has released this interesting set of F2A Buffalos in 1/72 scale perfect for the Hasegawa or Special Hobby releases. These markings provide a nice cross-section of the colors worn by these early Navy carrier-based monoplane fighters.

This decal set provides markings for four aircraft:

  • F2A-1, BuNo 1393, VF-3, USS Saratoga, 1940
  • F2A-1, BuNo 1387, VF-3, 1939 World's Fair
  • F2A-2, BuNo unk, VS-201, USS Long Island, 1941
  • F2A-3, BuNo unk, VF-2, USS Lexington, Late 1941

This sheet provides sufficient stencils and national markings for 2-3 aircraft. The instructions are in color and will also help identify some of the subtle color and detail variations for each of these subjects.

You can purchase these decals directly from Starfighter Decals on their website.

My sincere thanks to Starfighter Decals for this review sample!
