First Look
Attack Squadron is a resin aircraft kit/detail series produced by Arma Hobby from Poland and produces some impressive resin kits, details, and conversions. One of their recent focus areas has been the Kinetic 1/48 F/A-18 Hornet kits. This set enhances the aft end of the kit with these beautifully cast F404 turbine faces, afterburner chambers, and nozzles molded from gray resin. The set also includes a pair of flame holders/nozzles in photoetch with a rather ingenious design to render the two layers of rings.
Look in the image above at the nice surface detailing inside the afterburner chambers and inside those nozzles. This set comes with two pair of nozzles - two open and two closed - so you can mix and match the nozzle positions you wish to portray on your build.
This set is designed for any of the Kinetic F/A-18 Hornet/CF-188 Hornet releases and will provide some enhanced details to one of the nicest Hornet kits in 1/48 scale.
The bad news is that Arma has announced that they are terminating production of their Attack Squadron products, so if you've considered these detail sets in the past, get them now as they will be gone soon. While Arma is planning to sell the molds for their products, there is no telling if any new owners can match the casting quality of Arma Hobby. Last call!
