At the 2017 IPMS/USA National Convention, I ran into Gary Hatherly of GT Resin who showed me the latest detail sets and conversions for the Zoukei-Mura 1/48 Phantom II kits. This set was designed for the original Zoukei-Mura 1/48 F-4J and the follow-on F-4S Phantom II kits.
Here are the 'long J79 nozzles found on the F-4E, F-4F, F-4G, F-4J, F-4S, and RF-4E Phantom II. The only two kits in the current Z-M line-up that use the long nozzles are the F-4J and F-4S. As nice as those kits are, and you can see the kit parts to the right in the image above, you can see how they contrast with the GT Resin parts on the left. While the Z-M parts are nice and are better than most of the other 1/48 F-4J/S kits out there, these GT-Resin nozzles are even nicer. Look at the actuator details inside the GT Resin nozzles that aren't even there in the Z-M parts.
These parts are a drop-in fit for the Zoukei-Mura kits and the castings are sharp and ready for installation. GT Resin also makes 'short nozzles' for the Z-M F-4C and F-4D kits. GT Resin products can be purchased through Sprue Brothers' online store. If you've got other 1/48 or 1/32 scale subjects on your bench, you might want to look at his other offerings for the F-4 Phantom II, F-16 Fighting Falcon, F-105 Thunderchief, and the list keeps growing. You'll be seeing these installed in an upcoming project update, stay tuned.
My sincere thanks to GT Resin for this review sample!
