First Look
Redux has released a nice-looking detail set for the Trumpeter 1/48 P-40B Tomahawk kit. This set includes a new cockpit tub, side walls, pilot's seat, exhaust stacks, main wheels, landing flaps, elevators and rudder, all cast in tan resin. The casting quality is nicely done.
To compliment the resin, two small frets of photo-etch are also included, one containing the seat belts and harness for the pilot's seat and the ring and bead gunsight. The second fret is the instrument panel that sandwiches a decal sheet of aircraft instruments.
The detail set will definitely dress up the Trumpeter cockpit and is a direct replacement for the kit-provided parts. The instructions indicate which kit parts are used (like the control stick and pilot's seat frame) are used to complete the assembly.
Note that this set doesn't correct the depth issues associated with the Trumpeter (and most other) P-40B kit(s). This set provides a nice eye-catching level of detail based upon the existing kit design.
My sincere thanks to Design & Marketing International for this review sample!
