First Look

I've had one of Monogram's 1/32 scale Apollo capsules stashed away for a while and was pleased to see Stevens International commission a reissue of the recently. To date, the Monogram kit is the most detailed rendition of the Apollo spacecraft produced in kit form.

A few years ago, I happened across RealSpace Models' website and noted that they had correction/detail sets for the Monogram 1/32 Apollo spacecraft. One of these was a nicely detailed resin crew entry hatch that would allow the interior to be seen through the hatch.

While the kit provides a clear section to the capsule wall, some modelers would rather paint that section and blend the clear and opaque sections together. The problem painting over the clear section is that all of that detail inside the spacecraft is hidden - unless you open that hatch.

This is a fairly simple conversion. Cut out the hatch section (half out of the clear, half out of the opaque) and install the hatch open on its hinges. Painting instructions are provided though you can work off of the color box art as well.

You can purchase this or any of the RealSpace Models line directly from RealSpace Models' website (www.realspacemodels.com).
