First Look
Here is a first for Trumpeter - a brass upgrade set for their recently released HMS Hood kit. While the kit itself is very nicely engineered and will build straight from the box ( click here), this set raises the bar in detailing.
First, there are the main guns. These are designed to directly replace the kit guns, with the turned brass barrels mounted in styrene mounts. There are four barrels with left-handed canvas covers, four barrels with right-handed canvass covers, and eight barrels without canvas covers. Each of these barrels is hollow to provide that extra level of visual detail.
Seven sets of twin barrel cannons are also provided in brass. The set is completed with four brass propellers mounted on styrene hubs to make installation easy.
In short, this is a super detail set that ANY modeler can use as Trumpeter has ensured that there is still styrene at any mounting surface, so even with these brass parts, you'll only need liquid cement to install them. Nice job!
This set is definitely recommended and I certainly hope we'll see similar options in future Trumpeter kits!
