First Look
Tamiya did its usual nice job with their 1/700 releases of the German Kriegsmarine battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. Nevertheless, you can always count on White Ensign Models to take these kits up to the next (AMS) level.
This detail set provides a great supply of two and three bar railings for these vessels as well as a variety of inclined and vertical ladders. This set also adds support structures for the bridge as well as the bridge wings.
The one thing that detail sets like these do best is radar. This set provides both the FuMb4 and FuMo26 antennas.
Two other areas that are naturals for photo-etch - the ships catapult and service cranes. This set set dresses up or replaces the styrene parts to provide scale thickness and nicer looking details.
The set is rounded out with the funnel inner plate and detailed yardarms for the turmmast.
As you can see in the photo, the detail set consists of quite a few detail parts that will take care and experience to manipulate and install on your Tamiya kit. If you're comfortable working in this medium or are ready to give photo-etch in 1/700 scale a try, this is the set for you!
My sincere thanks to White Ensign Models for this review sample!
