First Look
White Ensign Models has released their usual excellent quality detail set for the German World War Two Bismarck-class battleships - Bismarck and Tirpitz. This set is suitable for the Trumpeter, DML, Aoshima, or Samek kits.
This detail set provides a great supply of two and three bar railings for these vessels as well as a variety of inclined and vertical ladders. This set also adds support structures for the bridge as well as the bridge wings.
The one thing that detail sets like these do best is radar. This set provides both the FuMb7, FuMo23, FuMo26, and FuMo27 antennas.
Two other areas that are naturals for photo-etch - the ships catapult and service cranes. This set set dresses up or replaces the styrene parts to provide scale thickness and nicer looking details.
A nice set of float struts and support cradles are provided for the ships' Arado Ar 196 floatplanes.
The set is rounded out with the funnel cap, detailed yardarms, details for the liferafts and ships' boats, and details for the searchlights/light platforms.
As you can see in the photo, the detail set consists of quite a few detail parts that will take care and experience to manipulate and install on your favorite kit. If you're comfortable working in this medium or are ready to give photo-etch in 1/700 scale a try, this is the set for you!
My sincere thanks to White Ensign Models for this review sample!
