First Look

Here is just the detail set you've been waiting for if you have either of Tamiya's 1/700 USS Enterprise CV 6 or USS Hornet CV 8 kits. This detail set tackles quite a few details on this vessel that cannot be practically rendered in styrene. In addition to the nice array of two and three-bar railings, the set provides a nice set of ladders, catwalks and structural supports.

USS Enterprise CV 6 and USS Hornet CV 8 Detail Set

The one thing that detail sets like these do best is radar. Radar antennas really do look awful in styrene but photo-etched radars catch the eye. This set provides the Mk.4/12 fire control radar, SC, SM, and CXAM antennas.

This set provides a nice array of defensive armament in photo-etch including 20mm Oerlikon single mounts, 40mm twin BOFORS mounts, 40mm quad BOFORS mounts, and 1.1" quad AA mounts.

Of course both of these subjects are aircraft carriers and what WEM detail set without details for the embarked air group. This set provides flaps, propellers, and landing gear for the F4U Corsair, F6F Hellcat, TBF/TBM Avenger, SB2C Helldiver, and even the B-25 Mitchell for the Hornet's Doolittle Raiders.

As you can see in the photo, the detail set consists of quite a few detail parts that will take care and experience to manipulate and install on your Tamiya kit. If you're comfortable working in this medium or are ready to give photo-etch in 1/700 scale a try, this is the set for you!

My sincere thanks to White Ensign Models for this review sample!
