First Look
Tamiya had tooled up the E-class destroyer in Royal Navy World War II service as part of their HMS Hood kit, but more recently, Tamiya started offering this kit separately. Of course, with another bone fide Royal Navy subject out from Tamiya, White Ensign Models has released a detail set tailored specifically for this class.
One of the things that detail sets like this do best is railing. This set provides an ample supply of two and three-bar railings to add that missing element that can't be replicated in styrene.
Notice the four photo-etched main gun shields as well as photo-etched flare launchers that are mounted to the sides of those shields. A nice set of quad machine guns rendered in photo-etch also enhance the armament. Depth charge racks for the stern round out the weapons updates.
The set also provides a nice array of structural supports, antenna masts, ladders, yardarms, bridge windshield, and bridge cover. This set is rounded out with nice detailing for the ships boats and their davits.
As you can see in the photo, the detail set consists of quite a few detail parts that will take care and experience to manipulate and install on your Tamiya kit. If you're comfortable working in this medium or are ready to give photo-etch in 1/700 scale a try, this is the set for you!
My sincere thanks to White Ensign Models for this review sample!
