First Look
White Ensign Models continues to turn out some very interesting detail sets in their 1/700 scale range. Their photo-etch detail sets add levels of detail and fidelity to a variety of ship subjects, and this release is definitely no exception!
This set is designed for the Tamiya 1/700 HMS Repulse kit. Repulse was one of Royal Navy's last battlecruisers and was lost in 1941. This detail set is an amazing collection of details that are quite extensive considering they are destined for a 1/700 scale ship.
As you can see in the photo, this detsil set provides the usual array of railings tailored for the Tamiyia kit, plus ladders, radars, boat cradles, boat details, davits, funnel cap grilles, cranes (which can only look right in photo-etch), and gun shields. The star of this show is the eight-barrel pom-pom gun mount assembly. The entire mount and gun array is done in photo-etch and is an impressive bit of origami and engineering. You won't see this kind of detailing out of the Tamiya box!
These detail sets are the lifeblood of naval AMS modelers and the crew at White Ensign Models continue to turn out some impressive work at a very reasonable price.
My sincere thanks to White Ensign Models for this review sample!
