First Look
The X-Rays are in and the results are positive - Zactomodels has released their newest heaters: the AIM-9X. The new AIM-9X missiles look like an average Sidewinder at a distance, but up-close they are a completely new design. Where the steering fins were located up front with the seeker head in all previous heaters, the X-Ray moves its steering to the rear and includes thrust-vectoring to the equation for greater maneuverability. As with the AIM-9L/M, the AIM-9X is an all-aspect missile, so it can be shot into the face as well as from behind, but this missile also includes an interface with the helmet-mounted cueing system so all you have to do is look at what you want to kill and the AIM-9X will take care of the rest. This new missile is now approved for all current US fighter aircraft.
Zactomodels has replicated the AIM-9X airframe, fins, rocket motor with vectoring vanes, umbilical, and covers, all in tan resin. The seeker head is replicated using an MV Lens, the same optics used in model railroading light lenses. This set comes complete with two complete heaters that you can add to your favorite project to arm it with a complete model of its own right.
As usual, this is a nice bit of engineering from Zactomodels to enhance your favorite modern fighter.

My sincere thanks to Zactomodels for this review sample!
