One of the mainstays of the German war machine was the simple cargo truck. The Opel Blitz series was widely employed by the war machine to move personnel, supplies, and other materials where they were needed.

ICM has released another nice kit, this time of the Type 2.5-32 1.5 ton truck. This title, while accurate, really means Opel Blitz type 2.5-32 without invoking the licensing problems associated with using the company name. The Type 2.5-32 was produced between 1938 and 1942 with over 10,000 examples built. It was a two-axle, rear-wheel drive truck with a weight capacity of 1.5 tons and was adapted to a variety of roles. The rear axle was set up with dual wheels to support weight and traction better.

This kit is molded in tan styrene and presented on two parts trees plus one tree of clear parts and one set of rubber (vinyl) tires. Among the features and options in this kit:

  • Steerable front wheels
  • Fully detailed engine
  • Accurate frame and drive train
  • Open grill work
  • Instruments supplied as decals
  • Hood can be assembled open or closed
  • Doors can be assembled open or closed
  • Fully detailed interior
  • Cargo bed has nice wood details

Markings are included for three vehicles. They are:

  1. Luftwaffe, France, 1940
  2. Wehrmacht, Russia, 1942
  3. Wehrmacht, France, 1944

The instruction sheet is very well laid out and will be easy to follow.

My sincere thanks to Squadron Mail Order for this review sample!
