First Look
The R-11 fuel truck is the standard aircraft refueler for the US Air Force as well as NATO. The first R-11s were produced by Oshkosh Truck Corporation between 1989-1991 with a follow-on contract being awarded to Kovatch Corporation in 1994. The R-11 remains in service today.
Here is a kit I thought I'd never see as a kit. This is a modern USAF air refueling tanker which will look great refueling your favorite modern USAF or NATO fighter, bomber, or transport aircraft. The kit is molded in dark green styrene and presented on three parts trees plus a separate cab and one tree of clear parts.
Among the features and options in this kit:
- Detailed cab
- Positionable access door to fuel pump control panel
- Detailed chassis and suspension
- Detailed fuel tank with access ladder and grated walkway
In the lineage of the R-11:
- Gen 1 was an Oshkosh tanker
- Gen 2 was a Kovatch tanker on a Volvo chassis
- Gen 3 was a Kovatch tanker on an International chassis
This is a Gen 3 R-11 kit. Markings are provided for two dark green examples and one desert sand example.
As with most of the releases in the Skunkmodels line, this is another great asset for your 1/48 scale flightline and will add dimension to your aircraft model by putting it into a natural diorama or vignette setting. Get one (or more)!
My sincere thanks to Lucky Model for this review sample!
