Review

Looking for potent model project inspiration? Look no further than Valiant Wings' colorful new "Airframe Extra" quarterlies!

The first issue – D-Day To VE Day – The Air Battle Over Europe – recaps the last year of World War II in Europe through an historical chronology with period photos and seven aircraft modeling features.

Project craftsmanship is excellent. I'm a C-47 enthusiast. And I especially enjoyed Libor Jekl's build of Airfix's new 1:72-scale Skytrain. The step-by-step techniques alone justify the price of admission. Just check out Dani Zamarbide's amazing weathering of Hasegawa's 1:32nd-scale P-47D drop tanks!

Valiant's lavishly illustrated effort also sports 80 superb profiles by Richard J. Caruana. Fighters, bombers, liaison, floatplanes. Props and jets. And not just your usual German, British and American main course, either. Soviet, Italian ANR, Yugoslav, Croatian, Romanian and Bulgarian subjects also season the stew.

A fulsome feast, indeed! Valiant's first, lavishly illustrated "Airframe Extra" really motivated my modeling muse. And I'm licking my lips at the prospect of more!

Future plans include "The Korean War - The First Jet-v-Jet Air Battles" (June 2015), "The Battle of Britain – Their Finest Hour" (August 2015) and "The Battle of Taranto – Judgment Day" (October 2015).

Robustly recommended!

My sincere thanks to Valiant Wings Publishing for this review copy.
