Here's an interesting tool to add to your diorama or vignette arsenal - this is the Pavement Textured Rolling Pin. This simple tool is a clear plastic rod with a variety of patterns scribed into the surface, in this case, European Pavement. The cylinder is 5.5 inches long and about 1 inch in diameter and is designed to be rolled over clay or putty surfaces to create specified pattern across its surface. Because the pattern is contiguous on the surface of the cylinder, you can roll out a five-inch-wide cobblestone surface as long as you need.
Green Stuff World also produces a set of rings (available separately at 3,50€) that slip over each end of the cylinder which will allow you to roll out the patterned surface at a uniform thickness of 2mm, 4mm or 5mm thick.
The rollers produced by Green Stuff World will work with a variet of putties or clay, which means they'll also work with many of the acrylic-based surface materials produced by companies like Ammo by Mig Jimenez. According to Green Stuff World, the cobblestone pattern rendered here is suitable for dioramas or vignettes ranging from 1/32 to 1/43 (54mm, 32mm, and 28mm).
Whether you build aircraft, armor, automotive, figures, or whatever, these tools will allow you the flexibility to create display bases with the look you design rather than be reliant upon whatever is pre-fabricated.
My sincere thanks to Green Stuff World for this review sample!
